Preserving the Heart of Sheridan: A Collaborative Revitalization Effort

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that the State Road 47 Reconstruction Project in Sheridan is moving to Phase 3 on or after Monday, August 10.

During Phase 3, S.R. 47 will remain closed to through traffic between Hamilton-Boone County Line Road and State Road 38. The official detour follows S.R. 38 and U.S. 421.

Also during Phase 3, Mule Barn Road and California Street will close at the intersection with S.R. 47. All local traffic will enter and exit Sheridan Estates and all business from the west side of S.R. 47. Maple Run neighborhood traffic will enter and exit off of Mule Barn Rd.

Phase 3 of the S.R. 47 Reconstruction Project will be in place through the end of the year.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and use extra caution while traveling in and around work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

The Town of Sheridan is requesting Letters of Interest (LOI) from qualified engineering firms for the structural repair and widening of 236th Street from State Road 38 to Teter Branch Bridge #201 (DES #2501412) in the Greenfield District.

Submissions are due April 17, 2026 at 4:00 PM.

The Town of Sheridan is excited to share that the first phase of our new playground installation at the Community Center is now complete!

Saturday’s crisp fall weather made for a perfect day to see local children enjoying the new equipment. It was heartwarming to watch families gather and kids explore the updated features.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, we encourage you to stop by and check it out. The Parks Board did a fantastic job selecting fun, modern pieces, including a large play structure with seven slides, swings, a climbing wall, and a spinning toy, all part of this initial phase.

The Sheridan Redevelopment Commission (RDC) is proud to partner with Sheridan Main Street Inc. to support local business owners through a matching grant program aimed at revitalizing our historic downtown. This initiative provides funding for essential improvements such as façade restoration, roof repairs, and tuckpointing, helping preserve the character and integrity of Sheridan’s cherished buildings for generations to come.

Sheridan Main Street Inc. has taken the lead in coordinating the grant process, distributing applications to building owners and working closely with them through a dedicated committee. This team ensures that each project aligns with the goals of the RDC and reports progress back to the commission.

We’d like to recognize Cindy Keever, President of Sheridan Main Street Inc., for her tireless efforts in driving this initiative forward, along with the board members who have contributed their time and energy to make it a success.

G & R Excavating is the latest recipient of the façade grant. Owner Austin Williams unveiled the newly improved exterior on Friday, October 3rd. Austin brings fresh energy and creative ideas to Sheridan Main Street, and we’re excited to see what he has planned for the interior of his building, which is still under construction. Once completed, he will host an open house to welcome the community and showcase the transformation.

On Monday, October 13th, the Town of Sheridan proudly dedicated Jamie’s Room—a soft interview space created in honor of a courageous victim of abuse. Recognizing the need for a safe and compassionate environment to interview victims of crime, our community came together to make this vision a reality.

Named after Jamie, whose story inspired this collective effort, the room serves as a sanctuary for those navigating incredibly difficult moments. It’s designed to offer comfort, dignity, and a sense of security during interviews with law enforcement and support professionals.

We are deeply proud to provide this space and remain committed to supporting victims with empathy and respect.
